The counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime was introduced in the Malgobek District of Ingushetia. On April 5, in the village of Zyazikov-Yurt, during a CTO, law enforcers came across a grouping of suspected militants. At an attempt to detain them, they resisted and opened fire. Three policemen were killed, the republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported. According to sources, eight more law enforcers were wounded. In May, the Dagestani MIA reported that an 18-year-old native of the village of Novolakskoye and a 20-year-old native of Kaspiysk resisted a detention attempt and were killed in a shootout. They found two grenades, a pistol and two knives on them. According to law enforcers, the young men had planned to attack law enforcers with these weapons. The police added that on May 11, these two young men attacked, near the village of Tsyisha, Kulinsky District, a taxi driver in order to capture his car. Employees of the FSB (Federal Security Service) and the MIA came to the conclusion that the attackers were "supporters of the religious extremist movement in Islam."
