Seda Suleimanova, a Chechen who ran away from home, handed over to her relatives

In Grozny, law enforcers questioned Seda Suleimanova, who was detained in Saint Petersburg, as a witness in a case on the theft of jewellery and handed her over to her uncle and aunt. Advocates were not allowed to visit their client: the law enforcers referred to the young woman’s refusal from the services of advocates, the “SK SOS Crisis Group”* reported.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on August 23, 26-year-old Seda Suleimanova, who had fled from Chechnya, and her partner were visited by policemen who took them to a police station, saying that the young woman was suspected of stealing jewellery. Then the young man was released, and the young woman was taken to an airport to be sent back to Chechnya.

In October 2022, Seda Suleimanova addressed the “SK SOS Crisis Group”*. The young woman was afraid that her family members might kill her, thus committing an “honour killing,” as they were not satisfied with her lack of religiosity. In January, Seda Suleimanova found a job and decided to stay in Saint Petersburg. In February of this year, the relatives of the young woman already tried to kidnap her, but she managed to escape.

The advocates arrived in Grozny to find Seda Suleimanova, the “SK SOS Crisis Group”* reported in its Telegram channel. However, the advocates failed to visit their client, and the young woman was questioned as a witness in the case on the theft of jewellery. Seda Suleimanova also wrote a refusal from services of advocates, although such a document may only be signed in the presence of advocates. The human rights defenders believe that Seda Suleimanova wrote the refusal under pressure.

Earlier, Stanislav Kudryavtsev, a partner of Seda Suleimanova, and David Isteev, the director of the “SK SOS Crisis Group”*, appealed to Russian Ombudsperson Tatiana Moskalkova.
