Rostov activist Sporysheva leaves Russia after search

Activist Tatiana Sporysheva, whose apartment was searched after Anatoly Berezikov had died in a special detention centre in Rostov-on-Don, left for Georgia. According to the activist, she made the decision to emigrate because of fears of criminal prosecution.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on June 22, the police searched apartments of Irina Gak, an advocate of deceased activist Anatoly Berezikov, and activist Tatiana Sporysheva, who also represented the interests of Anatoly Berezikov. According to Tatiana Sporysheva, the search was carried out as part of an investigation under the article on incitement to extremism, and law enforcers confiscated her laptop and mobile phone. Several days later, it became known that Irina Gak had left for Georgia.

On June 14, Anatoly Berezikov died in the special detention centre in Rostov-on-Don, where he was serving his third arrest after participating in a pacifist action. Earlier, the advocate noticed traces of a stun gun on her client’s skin.

According to Tatiana Sporysheva, she made the decision to emigrate on the border with Georgia, where she planned to go on vacation, the human rights project “OVD-Info”* reported. “I left because of fears of criminal prosecution. I realized that I must shut up, which also does not guarantee anything, or leave the country,” said Tatiana Sporysheva as quoted by the “Kavkaz.Realii”*.

Tatiana Sporysheva intends to continue trying to find out the circumstances of Anatoly Berezikov’s death.
