In Tbilisi, volunteers report about humanitarian aid for residents of Ukraine

The humanitarian aid collected in Georgia for residents of Ukraine is being transported daily by two trucks for shipment, but citizens of Ukraine can also get the things they need at the very centre of collection of humanitarian aid in Tbilisi, volunteers say. According to a volunteer coordinator, at least 200 tons of things have been collected.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that by March 3, in Tbilisi and Batumi, volunteers had collected about 80 tons of belongings, food, and essentials for residents of Ukraine. By March 11, more than 100 tons of humanitarian aid had been collected throughout the country, an official from the Georgian government reported.

On March 16, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent visited the humanitarian aid collection centre on Paliashvili Street in Tbilisi. The centre with an area of about 150 square metres was opened in late February, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent was informed by Lasha Tsitskaradze, a coordinator of the humanitarian aid collection. “This office has been opened by well-known jazz singer Nino Katamadze and her friends,” Lasha Tsitskaradze explains. He also adds that only volunteers work at the collection centre.

According to Lasha Tsitskaradze, in total, about 200-250 tons of humanitarian aid have been collected. “100 tons have already been sent,” the coordinator of the humanitarian aid collection reported.

A resident of Kharkov, who introduced herself as Nadya, told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent that she was vacationing in Sri Lanka, and on March 3, she learned that her house had been destroyed and she had nowhere to return. “I had to fly here to Georgia ... I was accepted here, and now I work as a volunteer here," said Nadya.
