Putin compares Russia's actions in Donbass with special operation in the Caucasus

The Russian Armed Forces have launched a military operation in connection with the situation in the Donbass, Vladimir Putin has stated. He compared the operation to the campaign against terrorists in Northern Caucasus in the early 2000s.

"I have decided to conduct a special military operation. Its goal is to protect people who have been subjected to abuse and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years," President Putin has announced on air of the "Rossiya-24" TV Channel.

He compared the operation of the Russian Armed Forces in Donbass with the operation against terrorists in the Caucasus in the early 2000s. "Russia cannot feel safe and develop under a constant threat emanating from the territory of modern Ukraine. Let me remind you that in 2000-2005 we repulsed terrorists in the Caucasus. We defended the integrity of our state and preserved Russia," Putin has stated.
