On March 8-14, one person perished in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of March 8-14, 2021, in the ongoing armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, at least one person perished; no information about the wounded persons was reported. These are the results of the calculations run by "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The casualty was an alleged member of the armed underground in Dagestan.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On March 11, at 10:15 a.m. Moscow time, a counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime was introduced within the administrative border of the Sovietsky District of Makhachkala. An alleged militant was found in a private house on Batyrai Street. In response to an offer to surrender, he opened fire on law enforcers. A shootout broke out, and he was shot dead. Nobody suffered among civilians and law enforcers. In the venue of the shootout, law enforcers found an improvised explosive device (IED) in the form of a "suicide belt", a submachine gun and a large amount of ammunition. In the afternoon, the CTO regime in Makhachkala was lifted. According to informed sources, in 2005, the killed 56-year-old man was sentenced to 17 years in prison under the murder case of three policemen. He was a member of the grouping led by Rasul Makasharipov, who was killed in 2005.

Detentions

On March 11, a 35-year-old woman from Kislovodsk, Stavropol Territory, was taken under house arrest on suspicion of financing terrorist activities. According to investigators, from May 2014 to June 2017, the suspect transferred, by using a mobile banking application, money to the bank card belonging to members of an international terrorist organization whose activities are prohibited in Russia.
