Today, the US Department of State has announced new sanctions imposed against Ramzan Kadyrov. According to a press statement posted on the website of the US Department of State, the sanctions are connected with the fact that the leader of Chechnya was involved in "gross violations of human rights in the republic."

"The Department has extensive credible information that Kadyrov is responsible for numerous gross violations of human rights dating back more than a decade, including torture and extrajudicial killings," the US Department of State announced.
