Policemen treat public apologies as measure to maintain order in Dagestan

The authorities of Dagestan have lifted the restriction on car traffic between Makhachkala and Kaspiysk, and within the capital. Apologizing videos can educate the people, who aggressively express their anger about restrictions, the police assert.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the number of traffic inspectors was increased in Makhachkala; they send the drivers, who have no permits, home. Checks on roads are a necessary measure in the context of coronavirus outbreak, Abdurashid Magomedov, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan, has stated.

Local residents were perturbed with restrictions, policemen have complained. According to their version, after apologies, "a person realizes his/her wrongdoing, and it's a good lesson for others."

On May 30, the Dagestani MIA posted a video in which a man apologizes for his harsh remarks addressed to inspectors of the patrol-and-post (PPS), who had stopped him with his sick child. The apologizing post is humiliating because the man expressed his personal opinion, Instagram users have stated.

Opinions of Instagram users regarding the public apology for the man's rude behaviour with policemen were different: some of them condemned this behaviour.

"How can they be cursed? It's their job," the user aiha3777 wrote.

Others were outraged that one has to apologize for expressing his opinion.
