Sources report shootout of Batalkhadjins in Surkhakhi

The decision of some Batalkhadjins to leave the clan has led to a conflict in the Nazran District of Ingushetia; several people were hospitalized after the shootout, sources have reported.

Residents of the village of Surkhakhi decided to leave the clan, a source said without specifying the number of such persons. "This caused outrage of other members; the quarrel grew into a conflict with the use of firearms," he said.

The shootout broke out on May 29, the "Interfax" has reported today.

Several persons suffered in the shootout, said a law enforcement source. "With various wounds, they were brought to the Ingush Republic's Clinical Hospital. The conflict was caused by victims' decision to leave the clan," the TASS has quoted the source as saying.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that earlier this May, in the area of a special operation in the Sunzha District of Ingushetia, unknown persons had cut a pear tree in Surkhakhi in the place revered by members of the religious Batalkhadjin community, around which local residents gathered at certain times for the commission of their rite.
