Ismail Kurbanov, resident of Dagestan, reports law enforcers' threats before interrogation

A resident of Dagestan, Ismail Kurbanov, accused along with his brother Mukhtar Kurbanov of links with militants and keeping explosives, has stated at the court session that he had given his confessions under a threat of torture.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 25, the prosecutor stated that Mukhtar Kurbanov had several times confessed to the participation on the side of militants in the Syrian conflict, but his advocate doubted the truthfulness of interrogation protocols. Ismail Kurbanov's wife stated that her husband had never left for Syria. The Kurbanov brothers declared at trial that they had refused from defence during the inquiry under law enforcers' pressure.

The father of Ismail and Mukhtar Kurbanov said that his sons had been kidnapped by law enforcers prior to their official detention.

Ismail Kurbanov has stated that during interrogation, law enforcers threatened him that they would "take out and put his wife and father into jail" if he refused to make a confession.

The defendant has stated that his testimonies had been compiled by law enforcers the day before the interrogation and demanded from to learn them.

During his interrogation in August 2018 at the Makhachkala SIZO (pre-trial prison), Ismail Kurbanov also completely denied the charges against him and reported self-incrimination after torture with electric current.
