Makhachkala native sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment for helping Syrian militants

In Rostov-on-Don, the military court found a native of Makhachkala guilty of transferring money to his nephew, who fought in Syria on the side of the "Islamic State" (IS), recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia.

44-year-old Ali Aliev was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment in high-security penal colony. According to investigators, the suspect knew that his nephew was a member of the "Islamic State" and was involved in the Syrian conflict on the side of the militants. In the period from January 3, 2015, to March 7, 2019, the defendant gave money to his nephew through bank transfers and cash, investigators suggest.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 10, the Southern Military Court sentenced Yakub Ibragimov, a native of Chechnya, to 19 years of imprisonment in a penal colony. According to public prosecutors, the defendant was trained at an IS training centre. Yakub Ibragimov claimed he had incriminated himself after torture and threats.
