Dagestani journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev left under arrest

A Makhachkala court had extended the arrest of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the "Chernovik" (Draft) weekly, until January 13, 2020. Other figurants in the case of financing terrorism, Kemal Tambiev and Abubakar Rizvanov, have also been left under arrest.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the editor of the religion section of the Dagestani edition "Chernovik", was arrested on June 18 under the case of financing terrorism. The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" has declared him a political prisoner.

New people are joining each new series of pickets in support of Gadjiev, Marbek Agaev, the edition's editor-in-chief, has noted. Fear and indifference prevent many from supporting the journalist, residents of Makhachkala believe.

Gadjiev himself has declared his innocence, and innocence of Rizvanov and Tambiev. He has emphasized that he is a journalist and a public figure and "has absolutely nothing to do with terrorist activities."
