Report on beating of official criticized for authorities' indifference to oppression of Dagestanis

A former official from the Kizlyar District was beaten at a SIZO (pre-trial prison) of Khasavyurt, reports his brother Ismail Magomedsharipov, a member of the parliament of Dagestan. Facebook users note that officials also began to suffer from the "legal arbitrariness" in the republic and reproached the Magomedsharipov brothers for the indifference to cases of human rights violations.

On October 24, 59-year-old Sharip Magomedsharipov, the chief of the property and land relations department of the Kizlyar District, who was detained in September, got injuries, the "Kavkaz.Realii" reports.

On Facebook, the brother of the former official reported that the beaten man was suspected of abuse of power and official forgery. The brother insists that Sharip Magomedsharipov is not guilty.

Some Facebook users expressed their disappointment with the anticorruption campaign announced after the change of power in the republic.

Raisat Rizvanova, a mother of Abubakar Rizvanov, reproached Ismail Magomedsharipov for not supporting her. "Why didn't you ever support me on my page when I wrote about the detention of my son?" the woman wrote. She also mentioned the prosecution of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the newspaper "Chernovik" (Rough Draft).

Murat Khakimov also reproached Ismail Magomedsharipov for his inattention to violations of the rights of ordinary Dagestani residents. "Why did members of the parliament not notice the arbitrariness when it concerned ordinary people?" the Facebook user wrote.
