Aishat Magomedova's memory film presented in Makhachkala

Stories about the hard life of highland women of Dagestan formed the basis of the film, a private screening of which was held in Makhachkala on the eve of the awarding the prize of Dr Aishat Magomedova, a nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July, 2019, the German Heinrich Böll Foundation announced the acceptance of applications for the prize for women leaders of Northern Caucasus engaged in public activities. The award was established in memory of Dr Aishat Magomedova; the laureates have already been defined and will be announced today, on September 28.

Aishat Magomedova was born in 1944 in the village of Godoberi, Botlikh District of Dagestan. She became a well-known gynaecologist; and in early 1990s, she founded the League for the Protection of Mother and Child to treat women from low-income families for free. In 1995, Aishat opened a charity hospital for women in Makhachkala. In 2005, she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. On December 26, 2010, Aishat Magomedova died at the age of 66 after a long illness.

In the evening on September 27, a film dedicated to the memory of Aishat Magomedova was screened in one of the business centres of Makhachkala.

The filming began six months ago; the authors spent two months in Dagestani villages, said Alexander Fyodorov, one of the film directors.

The film heroines are women-mountaineers. Aishat Magomedova combines all their stories into a single picture. The film also shows the everyday life of residents of highland villages, who harvest hay or corn high in the mountains; they have to go a few kilometres to a spring, because there is no drinking water supply in their villages; women-residents of Balkhar have to support their families without husbands; and about highland woman's happiness, and about what they dreamed of in their childhood.
