Journalist Afghan Sadygov arrested in Azerbaijan

People in civilian clothes detained Afghan Sadygov, who highlighted a rally in Baku, and the court sentenced him to 30 days of arrest for disobeying the police, reported a wife of Afghan Sadygov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 23, Afghan Sadygov, the founder of the socio-political website "Azel.tv", sentenced for attacking a woman, was released after 1.5 years of imprisonment. He announced the continuation of his journalistic activities, and on July 6, he was detained and arrested for 30 days on the charge of petty hooliganism.

On Tuesday, Afghan Sadygov was detained near the presidential administration building, where family members of soldiers and officers killed during the Karabakh conflict gathered. The protesters demanded compensation, reported Sevindj Sadygova, the wife of the journalist.

In spring, President Ilham Aliev signed a resolution on payment of compensation in the amount of about 6450 US dollars to the families of the persons killed or disappeared during the combat actions in 1991-1997. On November 6, in Baku, participants of a march expressed their dissatisfaction with the fact that officials refused to pay compensation to them.

"I was filming what was happening. Afghan stood and watched what was happening. Suddenly several people approached him and took him away with them. They forced him into a car and took him away," said Sevindj Sadygova.
