Chechen resident suspected of links with Syrian militants

A resident of the Itum-Kale District of Chechnya is participating in warfare in Syria on militants' side, law enforcers have suggested.

According to Chechen law enforcers, the young man went to Syria a few years ago to take part in hostilities against the government forces of this country.

"Despite the data confirming the participation of the resident of the Itum-Kale District in illegal armed formations (IAFs) in a foreign country, the investigator of the local police department refused to initiate a criminal case on this fact. This violation was revealed during the prosecutor's check," an official of the Chechen Prosecutor's Office told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent today.

According to his story, on November 6, the Chechen investigative bodies opened a criminal case against the above resident of the Itum-Kale District under Part 2, Article 208, of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

The maximum penalty provided for under this article is 15 years of imprisonment.
