Military policemen back in Chechnya from Syria

The military police unit from Chechnya has returned home from Syria, where it ensured security for the civilian population for several months.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2016, a battalion of military police of the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) was sent from Chechnya to Syria. In June 2017, military policemen returned to Chechnya from Syria. In February, another unit of 393 military policemen returned to Chechnya after their 18-month-long service in the Syrian city of Aleppo.

"The military policemen returned without losses; the most distinguished of them were decorated with state awards," the military prosecutor's office of Chechnya has reported, adding that there are now two battalions of military police stationed in Chechnya; they were formed from the former battalions of the GRU (Chief Intelligence Directorate of the Russian General Staff) "Zapad" (West) and "Vostok" (East) in 2016. The staff of each battalion is about 500 servicemen.

On September 25, 2017, in the Nadterechny District of Chechnya, the funeral of a serviceman who served in the military police and perished in Syria took place. Magomed Terbulatov died in battle with militants, the source reported.
