Putin ducks the question on Kadyrov's offer of three presidential terms

Russian President has assured that he intends to adhere to the constitutional restriction on the number of presidential terms. This statement was made against the initiative of Chechen authorities to amend the Constitution and introduce a possibility of holding the presidential post for three consecutive terms.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in April, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, offered to allow three, not two, consecutive terms of Russia's presidency, so that Vladimir Putin could be re-elected for a new term in 2024. The federal draft law, approved by the parliament of Chechnya, on the respective amendments to the Constitution was submitted to the State Duma on May 18.

Vladimir Putin, answering the journalists' question on whether he will leave the presidency at the end of his second term in office, said that he intends to stick to the Constitution, the "Interfax" reports.

"I've always been and am strictly following the Constitution of the Russian Federation, which clearly states: no more than two terms in a row," the "Interfax" quotes Mr Putin as saying; and the RIA "Novosti" adds that he stressed his intent to adhere to this provisions in the future.
