On April 23-29, 2018, three persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of April 23-29, 2018, at least three persons were killed in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. No wounded were reported. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes two suspected members of the armed underground in Dagestan and a civilian in Chechnya.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On April 24, in the area of the counterterrorist operation (CTO) between the villages of Chinar and Gedzhukh in the Derbent District of Dagestan, law enforcers found out a dugout in the forest, near which they encountered two armed men. The suspects refused to surrender and opened fire from submachine guns. In the course of a shootout, both suspected militants were killed. On the place of the armed clash, the law enforcers found a grenade launcher, a submachine gun, a grenade and rounds. On the same day, the CTO legal regime in the Derbent District was lifted.

Attacks on civilians

On April 23, in the Berdykel village in the Grozny District of Chechnya, law enforcers detained local resident Turpal Israilov. A day later, his dead body was handed over to his relatives. The law enforcement bodies forbad organizing a memorial service. According to local residents, the young man could die, unable to withstand torture: there were signs of beating on his body.

Detentions

On April 26, the Ingush Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) announced the detention of two members of an organized grouping who sold firearms and ammunition in the republic.

    A court in Sochi has sentenced the 72-year-old Vladimir Atamanchuk to 200 hours of compulsory labour, finding him guilty of libel. Besides, he must pay 40,000 roubles in compensation to one of the victims. The activist intends to appeal against the court's ruling.
