Book about ancient Dadivank Monastery presented in NKR

The "Victoria" Charitable Foundation has presented the book "Dadivank: The Restored Miracle" of the history of the monastery of the same name and the frescoes restored in it.

The Dadivank Monastery, or Hutavank (in Armenian – "monastery on a hill"), is located about 100 kilometres from Stepanakert. According to a legend, his first basilica was built in the middle of the 1st century on the grave of Dadi, a disciple of Apostle Thaddeus. In the 5th century, the monastery was one of the most important cultural centres of the region.

The book has been published in three languages – Armenian, Russian and English, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports. Experts from Italy and Belgium are among its authors.

"This is the first fruit of the global project 'Armenian fresco as integral part of world heritage'," Gayane Gevorgyan, Director of the "Victoria" Charitable Foundation, has noted.

The restored frescoes have great world value, said Christine Lamoure, an expert in restoration of wall paintings from Belgium.

"Artsakh (the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR)) has always aroused the interest of tourists and specialists in the world," said Elena Shuvaeva-Petrosyan, the editor-in-chief of the "Gora" magazine and a correspondent of the "Novoye Vremya" (New Time) newspaper.

In her opinion, the NKR may be attractive by many other historical monuments, since there are "very many sacred places" and objects of "religious tourism" here.
