Russia regains first place in team competition of Sochi Olympics

Today, the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) has cancelled life-long disqualification for 28 Russian athletes. Thus, athletes sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) are allowed to participate in the Olympic Games.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 24, the International Olympic Committee deprived four Russian athletes of their medals won at the 2014 Winter Olympics Games in Sochi, stating that they had violated the anti-doping rules. After cancellation of their results, the Russian team lost the first place in the medal standing of the Games.

As a result of the decision pronounced by the CAS, nine medals gained at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games will be restored, including two gold, six silver and one bronze medals.

Thus, the Russian national team won eleven gold, nine silver and nine bronze medals. The Norwegian team, which will go down to the second place in the medal standings, also won eleven gold medals, but only five silver medals, the "R-Sport" reports.
