Three workers suffered at tunnel construction in Georgia

Today, three persons received traumas at an explosion in the railway tunnel that is being built in the Kharagauli District of Georgia. Labour safety rules are often violated at the construction site, the railwaymen's trade union has stated.

Spartak Latsabidze, the head of the sakrebulo (village council) of Bezhatubani, has explained that violations of safety measures at this construction site are quite uncommon.

Vitaly Giorgadze, the Chairman of the "New Trade Union of Railway Workers", has specified that 120 workers are employed at this construction site "under extremely difficult conditions." "Half of them are Chinese, half – Georgian," he explained.

According to his story, workers receive traumas due to non-observance of labour safety regulations.

The draft law on labour safety was initiated by the Georgian Parliament on June 1, 2017, but its consideration is delayed, Tamta Mikeladze, an activist of the NGO "Centre for Human Rights Training and Monitoring", has added.
