Relatives report death of Chechen convicted for Kondopoga riots

Islam Magomadov, convicted under the case of unrests in the Karelian city of Kondopoga, has died in a Krasnoyarsk colony, his relatives have reported. They do not rule out that he was killed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in late August 2006, mass riots broke out in Kondopoga, caused by a brawl of local residents with natives of the Caucasus, which resulted in the death of two people. On April 1, 2010, the Supreme Court of Karelia sentenced Islam Magomadov to 22 years in prison, having found him guilty of the murders that provoked the riots.

On November 4, relatives of Islam Magomadov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he had died in Krasnoyarsk Colony No. 31 on October 30; his body was brought to Grozny by an aircraft.

Relatives refrain from commenting on the circumstances of his death, stating that they will do it after a forensic examination.

On November 2, the edition "Voice of Islam" reported that Magomadov was killed, noting that in the colony he was repeatedly beaten up and bullied.

The edition draws attention to the fact that Aslan Cherkesov, a resident of Kabardino-Balkaria, who was convicted on charges of killing the football fan Yegor Sviridov, is serving time in the same colony; this August he complained of being tortured.
