Georgian citizens go on hunger strike in Turkish jail

According to Irakli Asashvili, the Consul General of Georgia in Istanbul, 45 inmates take part in the hunger strike, announced in protest against the custody conditions in the Turkish prison.

The citizens of Georgia, kept in the prison, demand a meeting with a Georgian priest.

The above Consulate General was informed about the start of the hunger strike by a relative of one of Georgian citizens, who are serving their terms in Turkey. The health condition of the hunger-strikers who demand, among other things, to meet Georgian clergymen, is satisfactory, the "News-Georgia" has reported today with reference to the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

The MFA has added that the Consulate staff will meet the protesting prisoners after a respective permit is received from the Prosecutor's Office of Istanbul.
