"Rosobrnadzor" doubts objectivity of school medals in regions of Southern Russia

In six regions of the Southern Federal District (SFD) and the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), the number of school-leavers with medals is 1.5-2 times higher than the average for Russia. This was reported by the Rosobrnadzor (Russian Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science).

On July 11, Evgeny Semchenko, the chief of the "Rosobrnadzor" Department, announced the official data released by the ministers for education from the Russian regions.

In Karachay-Cherkessia, the number of medal winners reached 20% of school-leavers, in Adygea 17.7%, in Kabardino-Balkaria 17.3%, in Mordovia 16%, in the Stavropol Territory 16%, in the Krasnodar Territory 15.6%, and in the Rostov Region 14.7%. Meanwhile, on average in Russia, the number of regional medallists does not exceed 10%: in Moscow 8.9% and in Saint Petersburg 7.1%. Evgeny Semchenko reported.

"It is provokes questions, when every fifth school-leaver in a subject of the federation gets a medal," the RIA "Novosti" quoted the official as saying.

Evgeny Semchenko has also mentioned that in Soviet schools, only a small number of school leavers got medals. The official has also referred to a scandal with a medallist in Adygea, the "TASS" reports.

Investigators are engaged in verification of a report on illegal medal for a Ruzanna Tuko's classmate.
