"Chernovik": Dagestani doctors reprimanded for death of four-year-old boy

The family from the village of Stalskoe, Kizilyurt District of Dagestan, which has lost a four-year-old boy, has complained to the "Roszdravnadzor" (Russian Federal Service for Surveillance in Healthcare) about doctors' actions. The Dagestani Ministry of Public Health recognized doctors' mistake but restricted itself with a reprimand, the "Chernovik" weekly reports.

The boy was taken to the hospital on April 1; on the eve, his stomach ached sharply, his parents say, adding that the ambulance doctors suggested poisoning; therefore, at hospital, they made an enema and put a dropper to him.

They did not expose the boy to ultrasound screening, an x-ray and a blood test, as it was Saturday; and on Sunday there was not doctor detour, the "Chernovik" writes with reference to the boy's father. Then, an enema and a dropper were repeated.

"The surgeon said that should the dropper give no improvement, the boy will need a surgery. And then he said that the hospital has no children's anaesthesiologist; and he made it clear that he could not operate," the "Chernovik" quotes the father, adding that he was ready to take his son to Makhachkala, if the doctors gave such instruction.

Doctors decided to send the boy to Makhachkala, when he already stopped breathing, the father asserts. The boy died in the intensive care unit on April 2. In Makhachkala, it turned out that he had a thrombosis, under which enemas are categorically contraindicated in, said the father.

The Ministry of Public Health has reported that two doctors received reprimands; and a fine was imposed on the hospital. The father of the child found these measures too soft and appealed to the prosecutor's office.
