Villagers state land issue as root of conflict in Leninaul

In Leninaul, after a mass fight, six persons were arrested for 7 days for disorderly conduct. The fight took place against the backdrop of tense relations between Chechens and members of the community of compactly residing Avars. This was reported by local residents. The administration of the village confirmed the tension between two ethnic groups.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 25, a fight on domestic grounds occurred in the village of Leninaul of the Kazbek District, the Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported. 12 people, including three policemen, were injured, reported Sira Saipov, the former head of the village administration.

According to local resident Kamil, the conflicts between Avars and Chechens are connected with a dispute over land, which, according to Chechens, should belong to the repressed people.

Kamil reports that the fight arose from a conflict between teenagers. On the holiday of Eid al-Fitr am, two teenagers, a Chechen and an Avar, did not share a road.

Later, members of both ethnic groups gathered to clarify the situation and a fight occurred, reported Magomed, another resident of Leninaul.

By 1990, the Chechens raised the issue of restoring the Aukhov District in Dagestan. After that a problem arose to resettle Lak people, who, like Avar people, were moved to the lands of the Chechens deported during the years of World War II.

According to Gasan, another resident of the village, Avars do not violate the rights of Chechens in the village.
