Azerbaijani oppositionist Gasanli states unjustified inspection at airport
Jamil Gasanli, the chairman of the oppositional National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF), said that he was exposed to customs examination at the Baku International Airport, despite the fact that he had nothing to declare.
Jamil Gasanli told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that today he had arrived from China. "I have already left the airport building, when suddenly they called me back and said that I had to go through the customs check. I was asked about how much money I had on me, and I told them that I had much less than required for a customs declaration; however, they were not satisfied. They began asking persistently about the exact amount. After I told them the amount, customs officers invited me to an isolated room for drawing up a declaration," said the oppositionist.
Jamil Gasanli has treated the today's customs check as "a manifestation of political discrimination." "I flew from China via Turkey; and I was not checked anywhere. However, suddenly, some suspicions arose among Azerbaijani customs officers. This is nothing but political pressure on the opposition," said Gasanli.
