Georgian MIA provides protection for Afghan Mukhtarly's family members

The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has decided to provide protection for family members of Azerbaijani journalist Afghan Mukhtarly, kidnapped in Tbilisi.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 29, Afghan Mukhtarly disappeared in Tbilisi, and on May 30, he was brought to Baku. He claims that he was beaten during his kidnapping. The defence requests to transfer the journalist's case to the Georgian Prosecutor's Office.

"Staff members of the MIA's special service will protect the Afghan Mukhtarly's family members," the spokesman for the MIA's press service reports today.

Leyla Mustafaeva, the wife of Afghan Mukhtarly, has claimed that the Georgian MIA made such a decision on its own initiative. The very relatives of the Azerbaijani journalist did not appeal to the Georgian MIA with such a request.

Earlier, Sadygov has claimed that he has not been allowed to enter the SIZO (pre-trial prison), where the arrested journalist is being kept.
