Resident of Georgia suspected of abduction

The police have identified the man who abducted, in one of the villages of the Marneuli District of Georgia, a 17-year-old girl with the aim to marry her.

The incident occurred on April 28; the girl and her alleged abductor have not been found yet. A criminal case has been initiated against the man under Article 143 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (unlawful deprivation of liberty).

According to Baia Patarai, an activist of the "Sapari" Georgian non-governmental organization (NGO) for the protection of women's rights, a 27-year-old man abducted the girl near the village school. A teacher was an eyewitness of the abduction; he reported the incident to the police.

According to Patarai, the police are inactive. "The family is sitting and waiting angrily; however, the police patrol is in no hurry," the “News-Georgia” quotes her saying today.
