Dagestani truckers claim Medvedev is wrong

The statement of Dmitry Medvedev, the Russian Premier that less than 500 truckers take part in protest actions of drivers was criticized by Dagestani drivers of heavy trucks.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 27, Russian truck drivers resumed mass protests. They demand to abolish the transport tax, reduce fuel excises and cancel the "Platon" system introduced to collect tolls from drivers of heavy trucks on federal roads.

Abdurashid Samadov, one of the protesters, told in his interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that Dagestani truckers decided to prove Mr Medvedev that "not several hundreds but much more of them are against the ‘Platon’ system."

Only in Dagestan, there are more than two thousand protesting truckers; and they are going to prove it at the action scheduled for the end of April, Mr Samadov said.

"After Dmitry Medvedev's statement that only 480 truckers are on strike in the whole country, we intend to show a real number of protesters. In Dagestan alone, there are several thousands of them. The authorities know this, but they brazenly lie and deliberately understate the real figures (The Premier Medvedev said about 480 protesting truckers on April 19, making his report to the State Duma, – note of the "Caucasian Knot")," said Abdurashid Samadov.
