Georgian President rebukes party in power of refusal to hold dialogue

Having monopolized the power at the Parliament, the MPs of the "Georgian Dream" practically rejected a dialogue with other political forces. Besides, the dynamics of reforms, headed by them, is not impressive, said President Giorgi Margvelashvili.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the President, elected in 2013, has repeatedly opposed the initiatives of the party in power and vetoed its bills, which, however, were overcome by the Parliament. In March, the “Georgian Dream” achieved the signing of a package of laws on secret surveillance over citizens.

The trend to monopolize the power arose at the background of the fact that the country needs to continue working actively towards integration into European and Euro-Atlantic structures, Mr Margvelashvili said on air of the TV "Channel Two".

"To do so, we should strengthen democracy... the defence of human rights, the rule of law, the development of the economy and the creation of a truly functioning European legal system," he said.

Supporters of the party in power are ready to discuss disputable issues with the President, said Zaza Gabuniya, a representative of the “Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia”, said on air of “Imedi” TV Company.

The oppositional "United National Movement" (UNM) is interested in Margvelashvili's opinion on a number of issues, since "the country is developing incorrectly in a number of directions," said Tinatin Bokuchava, an MP from the UNM.
