MIA refutes data about brawl at MMA championship in Dagestan

In the course of the incident at the mixed martial arts (MMA) championship among amateurs in Dagestan, no fist blows and bodily injuries were fixed, said the Ministry of Internal Affairs. At the same time, according to the president of the MMA Federation of Dagestan, the athlete Aziz Djumaniyazov was disqualified for one year because of the incident in the ring.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 11, at the MMA championship among amateurs in Dagestan, a brawl happened: Aziz Djumaniyazov kicked his opponent – a MMA fighter Vladimir Mineev. In his turn, the latter struck his opponent with his fist on the head, after which spectators jumped into the ring. Djumaniyazov and his team, Dagestan Fighters, were disqualified, the fight outcome annulled.

"The spectators, who jumped into the ring, began dragging athletes’ supporters apart; and this moment was then shown in social networks; but this lasted just a few seconds," says the website of the Russia’s MIA for Dagestan.

The brawl was mainly among the young guys, who jumped into the ring, Shamil Alibatyrov, the president of the MMA Federation of Dagestan, has added.

"We have been holding such tournaments for six years in the republic; and for the first time we had such an incident," he said, adding that thanks to quick reaction of judges and tournament organizers, they managed to avoid serious consequences.
