Fighter Vartan Asatryan fired from "Fight Nights" for using flag of Nagorno-Karabakh

The promotion company "Fight Nights Global" broke the contract with Vartan Asatryan, an MMA fighter, because of his using of the flag of Nagorno-Karabakh.

According to the company "Fight Nights Global", in the semifinals of the Fight Nights Global tournament held on February 23, Vardan Asatryan, an Armenian MMA fighter, representing Russia, defeated Azerbaijani athlete Elnar Ibragimov. After his victory, Vardan Asatryan raised at first the Armenian flag and then the flag of Nagorno-Karabakh.

"Vartan Asatryan has been officially notified of termination of the contract. The reason for the fighter's dismissal was a violation of ethical standards, which resulted in the use of outfit with the symbols of political content. Fighters' contracts contain paragraphs on the above issue and require its mandatory compliance," the RIA "News" quotes the statement of the company "Fight Nights" on February 25.
