Two Azeri journalists complain to ECtHR about ban to leave the country

The freelance journalists Aiten Ferkhadova and Ainura Geidarova have lodged a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in connection with the ban on leaving Azerbaijan imposed on them. The ban is caused by the inquiry into the criminal case against the edition “Meydan.TV”, their advocate has explained.

The complaints were prepared by the advocate Fariz Namazly, who will present their interests at the ECtHR.

"This week I’ve sent two complaints. The ban to leave the country was imposed on them back in autumn of 2015. Only in spring of 2016, it was officially confirmed that the ban has been imposed by the Investigating Department for Grave Crimes of the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) within the criminal case against the ‘officials’ of the ‘Meydan.TV’. However, Ferkhadova and Geidarova had never taken any posts and had never been on the staff there. They are freelance journalists and cooperate with different mass media," Mr Namazly told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
