Azeri authorities start raids against fortune-tellers

The Azerbaijani State Committee for Work with Religious Associations has started mass inspections against local fortune-tellers. Women are subjected to interrogations and are warned for involvement in illegal activities.

The raids took place in the Udjar and Shamakhi Districts.

"The regional offices of the State Committee for Work with Religious Associations together with local offices of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have carried out an inspection against the so-called fortune-tellers in the Udjar and Shamakhi Districts. In the course of the inspections against so-called fortune-tellers, Malakhat Gafarova, a resident of the village of Garadjally of the Udjar District, and Sveta Ismayilova, a resident of the Shamakhi District, were questioned," the agency "Trend" reports with reference to the press release of the Azerbaijani State Committee.

During the interrogations, the fortune-tellers have been warned about the administrative and criminal liability for illegal activities, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

According to officials from the Azerbaijani State Committee, after the interrogations, the women have voiced to the law enforcers their intentions to stop their activities of fortune-tellers.
