On July 11-17, 2016, five persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of July 11-17, 2016, five persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, three persons were killed, and two others were wounded. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

All the deceased men were suspected members of the armed underground, all of them in Dagestan.

Attacks on law enforcers

In the evening of July 12, in the old part of Derbent, policemen tried to stop a car to check documents and were shelled by a group of unidentified attackers. As a result, two policemen got tangential gunshot wounds, and the attackers fled the place. Officials from the Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have confirmed that two policemen were wounded in Derbent while chasing a car. Later, an official from the press service of the Dagestani MIA has denied the report on a shootout and stated that in Derbent, the policemen suffered minor injuries in a car accident. While chasing offenders, the police car collided with a car parked near the road. The policemen made several warning shots into the air.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On July 11, a shootout occurred near a blocked house in the village of Miskindja of the Dokuzpara District of Dagestan, and at 4:30 p.m., the counterterrorist operation (CTO) legal regime was introduced in the village, where law enforcers blocked the house of family members of Admir Talibov, suspected of organizing the bombing at the checkpoint of the road police (known as GIBDD) in Djemikent. As at 6:30 p.m., law enforcers failed to persuade Admir (Arsen) Talibov to surrender, and special forces fighters started to storm the house. During the armed clash, the suspected militant was killed, and the house of the Admir Talibov's family caught fire. At 12:00 a.m. Moscow time of July 12, the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) lifted the CTO legal regime, introduced in the Dokuzpara District of Dagestan on July 11.

At 2:00 a.m. Moscow time of July 14, the CTO legal regime was introduced in the village of Kharachi of the Untsukul District of Dagestan. At night, two militants were discovered in the course of operational and search activities. They refused to surrender and opened fire on law enforcers. An armed clash occurred, and both militants were killed. They are preliminary identified as 25-year-old Magomed Magomedov and 24-year-old Magomed Abduraev, natives of the village of Kharachi, who were in hiding since March of 2014. At the place of the armed clash, law enforcers seized submachine guns, a grenade, and a large quantity of ammunition. At 5:30 p.m., the CTO legal regime in the village was lifted, and all special actions were completed there.

Detentions

On July 13, the website of the Chief Department for the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported that a 27-year-old resident of the Zolskoe District of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) was arrested by the court. He is accused of the fact that in the period from August 2013 to March 2014, he was aiding and abetting members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) by supplying them with cash. The IAF members were killed as a result of special operations.

On July 13, law enforcers detained a resident of North Ossetia, in whose house, according to them, they found a home-transformed pistol and live rounds. The owner of the house was brought to the local police station. The issue of opening a criminal case is under consideration.

On July 15, in the village of Krasnoarmeyskoe of the Kirov District of Makhachkala, law enforcers stopped a Toyota car to check it within preventive measures. Inside the car, they found two grenades with fuses, two magazines for a submachine gun, and several dozens of rounds of various calibres. The driver, a 21-year-old resident of Makhachkala, was detained, and the criminal proceedings were instituted against him for illegal possession and transportation of ammunition and explosives (Part 1 of Article 222 and Part 1 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia).
