John Kerry calls on to continue negotiations for settlement of Karabakh conflict

US Secretary of State John Kerry has met Ilham Aliev and Serzh Sargsyan, Presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia, respectively. At the meeting, John Kerry has emphasized the need for the parties to enforce the commitments reached at the meetings in Vienna and Saint Petersburg. This has been reported today by John Kirby, Assistant Secretary and Department Spokesperson of the US Department of State.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at the meetings held in Vienna on May 16 and in Saint Petersburg on June 20, the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan declared their commitment to a peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict. Despite that fact, the two parties regularly accuse each other of violation of armistice signed on April 5.

During the meeting, John Kerry has confirmed that "the US supports the meaningful negotiations leading to a comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," the "Gazeta.ru" quotes John Kirby as stating.

The President of Armenia has praised the constant efforts of the US as a country co-chairing the OSCE Minsk Group to ensure peace and stability in the region. This was reported by the press service of the Armenian President.

Serzh Sargsyan has once again thanked John Kerry for "effective steps to quit the situation caused by the April aggression provoked by Azerbaijan against Karabakh." The meetings held in Vienna and Saint Petersburg, at which joint statements were adopted, were also a result of those steps, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
