On May 30-June 5, 2016, six persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of May 30-June 5, 2016, six persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, at least two persons were killed, and at least four others were wounded. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes a civilian in Ingushetia and a law enforcer in Dagestan.

Attacks on law enforcers

At night of June 3, in the village of Ashaga-Stal of the Suleiman-Stalsky District of Dagestan, two unidentified persons, armed with firearms, entered the house of the family of a police captain, a district police inspector. They shot and killed the owner of the house in front of his wife and his two children.

At night of June 3, on the federal highway "Kavkaz" in Chechnya, inspectors of the road-and-patrol service (known as DPS) tried to inspect a passenger car and were shelled. Two men from the car were wounded by return fire and detained. The detainees were identified as Yusup Chugaev and Aslambek Bersanukaev, residents of Chechnya. In the course of their detention, one of them was wounded in his leg, and the other got a head injury. In the course of the inspection of the detainees' car, law enforcers found a Kalashnikov submachine gun with ammunition and a tubular grenade launcher with five charges. No policemen were injured.

Attacks on civilians

On May 31, near the village of Duts-Khutor in the high-mountainous Vedeno District of Chechnya, soldiers of federal troops opened fire from automatic firearms on a group of local residents. While being engaged in reconnaissance and search activities in a forested area in the mountainous and forested terrain of the Vedeno District, a group of the special forces fighters encountered three armed men in camouflage. The special forces fighters treated the hunters as members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) and shelled them from their automatic firearms. As a result, 47-year-old Kyuri Shirvaniev was seriously wounded. He was brought to the hospital of the Interior Troops in Grozny, where he underwent a surgery.

On May 31, in the village of Ekazhevo in the Nazran District of Ingushetia, unidentified men, who were travelling in a grey Lada Priora car, opened fire, presumably from automatic firearms, on a local resident. As a result, the man died at the place from the injuries he got. The killed man was identified as Khasan Tsechoev, a Category I Invalid. He was well-known for the fact that in 2012, being deprived of legs, he climbed Mount Elbrus.

On June 1, Shakhbulat Shamkhalaev, a well-known Russian athlete of mixed martial arts, got a gunshot wound in Makhachkala. The incident occurred in the "Port-Petrovsk" restaurant. A record from the surveillance cameras at the place of the incident was posted on the Internet. The athlete underwent a surgery. According to his brother, Shakhbulat Shamkhalaev got 13 bullets. Of them, two bullets were fired from combat weapons, and the rest from traumatic weapons. According to a source from the investigating authorities, one of the versions suggests that was a case of blood feud, a conflict over the murder of the director of the "Gorets" (Mountaineer) Club, who was killed in 2013. Moreover, according to another version, the attackers were militants who tried to kill a prosecutor, who also visited the restaurant at the same time, but made a mistake and opened fire on Shakhbulat Shamkhalaev.

Detentions

At night of June 1, in the residential district "Iskozh" on the outskirts of Nalchik, law enforcers detained a 38-year-old resident of the city of Terek, who was allegedly involved n the armed underground and planned to organize a terror act. In his car, the law enforcers found a ready-to-use improvised explosive device (IED) with power of two kg of TNT equivalent. The IED was destroyed at the place. According to the law enforcement bodies, the man planned to commit a terror act on June 1, the International Children's Day.

At 10:00 a.m. of June 2, Akhmad Shikhmagomedov, a resident of Makhachkala, an owner of the Muslim "Ummah" shop, left his house and disappeared. According to his wife, Akhmad was registered in a special list at the police and that he was periodically stopped at checkpoints. On the other day, it turned out that Akhmad Shikhmagomedov was detained by law enforcers and brought to the detention facility of the city of Kaspiysk. This was reported by a relative of Akhmad Shikhmagomedov and a source from the police. The circumstances of the Akhmad Shikhmagomedov's detention are not disclosed.

On June 3, in Nazran, Ingush law enforcers detained B. Mutsolgov, a 26-year-old local resident. According to the law enforcement bodies, he is a member of the grouping, which is a structural part of the "Islamic State" (which is recognized in Russia as a terrorist organization and which activities are banned by a court decision). During the search of the detainee's house, field investigators discovered a pistol with ammunition.
