Ramzan Kadyrov offers Chairman of Chechen SC to resign

Acting Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has called on Magomed Karataev, Chairman of the Supreme Court (SC) of the Chechen Republic, and three other judges to resign voluntarily.

"I have offered Magomed Karataev, Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Chechen Republic, and three other judges ... to write letters of resignation and to voluntarily leave the positions held by them. In the Chechen Republic, ... we should have no persons against whom unjust sentences were pronounced and no guilty persons not prosecuted for their offences," on May 5, Ramzan Kadyrov wrote on his Instagram page after the meeting with members of the Supreme Court of the Chechen Republic and federal judges of the districts.

Ramzan Kadyrov has noted that at the meeting, participants reported the cases related to delaying of terms of consideration on the merits of criminal cases, as well as the case, when a member of the armed underground put on the federal wanted list was recognized by the decision of the Chechen court as disappeared.

"The practice of civil cases deserves special criticism... There are facts when different conflicting decisions were pronounced in the same cases. Although all those examples are rare or not numerous, they do not contribute to the growth of public confidence in the judicial system and in the power as a whole," Ramzan Kadyrov has stated.
