Suspects of attempt to sell uranium detained in Adzharia
In the Georgian resort city of Kobuleti, five parsons have been detained while trying to sell radioactive uranium, the Georgian State Security Service (SSS) reports today.
According to the SSS of Georgia, all the detainees are Georgian citizens. The detention was made at the moment, when the detainees "brought the radioactive material with the aim to sell it to an apartment in Kobuleti," the SSS claims.
According to the SSS, an examination has established that the radioactive material confiscated from the detainees – the uranium in the amount of 1.625 kilos, contains two radioactive isotopes – uranium-238, and in a small amount (0.23%) uranium-235, "which refer to the category of nuclear materials," the "Interfax" reports.
The SSS claims that the detainees had intended to sell the uranium for 3 million US dollars. On April 27, the Tbilisi City Court ruled to arrest the suspected uranium sellers, the "Georgia-Online" reports.
