Leyla Arkelova declares in court her innocence of defamation

Leyla Arkelova, a mother of many children, has denied the charges of defamation in the course of the debate at the court hearing in Cherkessk. Private prosecutor Zulfiya Bostanova has asked the court to dismiss the appeal filed by Leyla Arkelova.

On February 9, 2015, Leyla Arkelova, who in the period from August 2003 until April 30, 2014, worked as the chief state tax inspector of the Inter-District Inspectorate of the Federal Tax Service, was sentenced to a fine of 5000 roubles on the charge of defaming her chief Zulfiya Bostanova. On June 11, the Supreme Court of Karachay-Cherkessia sent the case for reconsideration. On July 27, the Court again sentenced Leyla Arkelova to a fine, but she fell under the amnesty.

On April 21, the court held an oral hearing on the case and listened to the final speech of Leyla Arkelova, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

According to the prosecutor, while trying to exercise her constitutional rights, Leyla Arkelova violated the rights of another person.

"In her appeals to the state authorities, she repeatedly defamed me, and that affected my professional reputation," Zulfiya Bostanova said.

Public defender Kurman-Ali Bolatchiev believes that Leyla Arkelova was illegally subjected to prosecution while she was realizing her constitutional right to appeal to the state authorities.

The judicial act in the case is to be announced on April 25.
