Armenian political analysts treat negatively Russia's role in Karabakh conflict

Russia's supplies of weapons to Azerbaijan fail to respond Armenia's interests and jeopardize the Russian-Armenian relations, said political analysts from Yerevan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that, according to Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, for Moscow, the relations with both Azerbaijan and Armenia are equally important. Russia is also ready to contribute to a political settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the ceasefire regime in the region, said Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, on April 6.

The situation in the Karabakh conflict zone sharply escalated at night on April 2. At noon on April 5, the parties to the conflict declared an armistice.

Russia already openly behaves far as not a strategic partner and frankly disregards the interests of Armenia, said Stepan Safaryan, an expert and the head of the Armenian Institute for International Affairs and Security.

In his opinion, Russia's support of Azerbaijan has to do with the fact that Russia is trying to "pull away" Azerbaijan from the West, and even from Turkey, and force to join the Euro-Asian Economic Community (EAEC).

The Russia's actions and statements of Russian officials about the continuation of weapon supplies to Azerbaijan indicate that "there was a Russian-Azerbaijani conspiracy against Armenia," Ruben Megrabyan, an employee of the Armenian Centre for Political and International Studies, is sure.

The Armenian-Russian cooperation in the sphere of security in put under question, said Sergey Minasyan, Deputy Director of the Institute of the Caucasus. According to his story, due to his actions, Russia may lose both Armenia and Azerbaijan.
