In Armenia, more than 800 people saved by rescue teams from snow captivity

Starting from December 31, Armenia suffers from heavy snowfalls which resulted in the closure of 109 roads. This was reported on January 4 by Armen Yeritsyan, Minister of Territorial Administration and Emergencies.

At the government meeting, the Minister has reported that in the period starting from December 31, 2015, more than 800 people were rescued from snow captivity. In Armenia, the snow cover varies from 50 cm to 1.2 meters, Armen Yeritsyan has added.

According to him, operational works on clearing roads from snow and handling them with special de-icing blend have been already carried out, the "News-Armenia" reports.

On January 4, the police and rescue teams helped to liberate from snow about twenty cars in the Gegarkunik Region, including the car of Galust Saakyan, Chairman of the National Assembly. Galust Saakyan and his colleagues brought New Year gifts to needy families and were captured by a snowstorm near the village of Vardenik, the "Shamshyan" reports.
