In Kuban, 22 people suspected of involvement in IS, Prosecutor's Office reports

This year, the Krasnodar Territory instituted criminal proceedings against 22 people suspected of trying to join the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) or recruiting fighters for it. This was reported by Leonid Korzhinek, Prosecutor of the Krasnodar Territory, at a meeting with journalists held on December 24.

"At present, 15 people are arrested on suspicion of committing crimes of terrorist nature, including attempts to take part in illegal armed formations (IAFs) in Syria and recruitment of Russian citizens. Seven other people are abroad and put on the international wanted list," the "Interfax-South" quotes the Prosecutor of the Krasnodar Territory as reporting.

According to Leonid Korzhinek, the age of the IS supporters detained in the Krasnodar Territory ranges from 18 up to 33 years old. The number of detainees includes residents of Kuban and natives of North-Caucasian republics.

Different sources have confirmed the information that militants from Russia are fighting in Syria for the "Islamic State" (IS, earlier ISIL), which is recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in Russia and other countries. The section "Guide" of the "Caucasian Knot" contains the reference material "Caucasians in the ranks of IS (ISIL)".
