In Armenia, front "No!" calls for protest voting at constitutional referendum
In Armenia, the front "No!" has called on citizens to take active part in the forthcoming referendum on the amendments to the Constitution of Armenia. The leaders of the front "No" believe that the protest should be expressed not through boycott, but through voting against the proposed constitutional reform.
According to the decree issued by Serzh Sargsyan, the referendum on the draft amendments to the Constitution of Armenia is scheduled for December 6. The reform draft envisages transition to a parliamentary system of government in the country.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the united front "No!" is represented by the Front of National Salvation "New Armenia" and the movement and "You won't deceive us!", formed by the oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC) and the People's Party of Armenia.
According to Levon Zourabyan, the head of the parliamentary faction of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) and the head of the headquarters of the front "No!", the vast majority of people oppose the constitutional reform.
At the meeting held on November 20, Irina Arutyunyan, a member of the "Founding Parliament" (formerly "Pre-Parliament"), has stated that the regional meetings with citizens have shown that the number of opponents to the constitutional reform is times higher than the number of its supporters. However, Irina Arutyunyan has expressed her concern that the results of the referendum will be falsified.
Stepan Demirchyan, the leader of the People's Party of Armenia (PPA), believes that at present, in Armenia, there is no public need in any amendments to the Constitution. According to Stepan Demirchyan, Armenia really needs changes, and the current authorities should be dismissed from governing the country.
