Sukhumi residents pay tribute to memory of victims of Georgian-Abkhaz war

In Sukhumi, on the 22nd anniversary of the liberation of the city, people paid tribute to the memory of the victims killed in the Georgian-Abkhazian war and laid flowers and wreaths to the Memorial of Glory.

The Georgian-Abkhazian war lasted 413 days in 1992-1993. The battle for Sukhumi took place on September 16-27, 1993.

Today, war veterans, officials, and schoolchildren laid flowers and wreaths to the Memorial of Glory. According to Larisa Tarba, Chair of the Association of Women Disabled in the Patriotic War of the Abkhaz Nation, "today, all people of Abkhazia pay tribute to fallen soldiers."

In their turn, in Tbilisi, students organized a peaceful march from Rose Square to Heroes' Square to mark the 22nd anniversary of the fall of Sukhumi. "Our generation is the vital force ready to live in peace in Georgia together with our Abkhaz contemporaries," the organizers of the march have stated.
