New tree felling planned in Taman Forest of Stavropol

In Stavropol, within the construction of the territorial perinatal centre in the territory of the Taman Forest, they plan a new tree felling, the activists said.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in early March of 2015 Stavropol began building the above perinatal centre, as a part of the state programme "Development of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD)". Opponents of the construction in the forest argue that it will entail a traffic collapse and degradation of the environmental, as activists claimed at their actions in defence of the forest.

"We were told by Ivan Syrovatkin, the head of the construction site, they will be cut down about 40 trees located outside the fence enclosing the site," said Vyacheslav Markin, one of the activists. According to his story, officials of the city Mayoralty "have recently assured that there will be no tree cutting outside the fencing."

On May 15, forest defenders lodged the fifth lawsuit demanding to recognize the tree felling in the Taman Forest illegal. Earlier, on September 16, 2014, the court dismissed the claim lodged by the activist Julia Shaptala; and on April 2, 2015, the same was done with the lawsuit lodged by seven residents of Stavropol.

The above Syrovatkin said that builders have a felling permit and added that in total 546 trees had been planned for cutting, so far, they have felled only 400 trees.

Let us remind you that the completion of the perinatal centre in the Taman Forest is expected in July 2016. The facility will employ 630 people.
