Dagestani authorities intend to lay out park in Karaman

As stated by Magomedemin Gadjiev, a member of the governmental commission on Karaman problems, a park will be laid there, while land plots for villagers of Tarki, Kyakhulay and Alburikent will be allocated in the area of Tyube.

The locality named Karaman (Black Stones) is situated near Makhachkala and is claimed by residents of Lak villages of the Kumtorkalin District, and, at the same time, by residents of Kumyk villages of Tarki, Kyakhulay and Alburikent. The latter, referring to historical documents, claim that the locality is theirs, and demand to recognize them as a repressed nation.

At sittings of the above governmental commission on Karaman, "a strict instruction was given to proceed with the laying a park in Karaman by means of an auction," Magomedemin Gadjiev, the current head of the Kayakent District of Dagestan and the former head of the Sovietskiy District of Makhachkala, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Tarki nationals may take part in the auction, while the land for the needy villagers of Tarki, Kyakhulay and Alburikent was allocated near Tyube of the preliminary area of 100-300 hectares. The heads of the villages should present their waiting lists," said Gadjiev.

According to his story, "the final decision will be announced in the near future."

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 10 residents of Tarki villages in Dagestan went on a hunger strike demanding to restore the Tarki District with inclusion of the territory of Karaman and Mount Tarki-Tau into it. On November 15, a meeting of delegates from the villages of Tarki, Kyakhulay and Alburikent supported the protest action and declared it endless.
