In Grozny, relatives of disappeared persons obtain 60 genetic passports

In Grozny, in the Press House, relatives of 60 disappeared and kidnapped citizens obtained the so-called "genetic passports".

"On October 29, the assembly hall of the Press House of Grozny hosted an event for issuing the so-called 'genetic passports' for relatives of Chechen residents, who disappeared in the course of special operations and who were kidnapped during the two military campaigns. In total, relatives of 60 persons obtained those documents. We launched the process of issuance of DNA-passports in spring of the past year, and at present, more than 200 such DNA-passports have already been issued," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the Public Chamber of Chechnya.

According to Khasan, a member of a local NGO, obtaining genetic passports significantly increases the chances to learn about the fate of kidnapped or disappeared persons. "In our republic, we still have no accurate data on the number of citizens, who had been kidnapped or disappeared during the two military campaigns that took place in Chechnya. Officials mention the number of 3000-5000 persons; however, this is not quite complete information. When relatives of kidnapped or disappeared persons obtain genetic passports, they get a real chance to find out what had happened to their family members," Khasan believes.
